Internet Speed Test measures download speed, upload speed, ping, jitter, and how much ping rises when the line is busy (bufferbloat) between this browser and the nearest Cloudflare server. It then says what the connection is good for, such as 4K streaming, video calls, and gaming, and keeps recent runs in this browser only.
Measure download, upload, ping, jitter, and bufferbloat against Cloudflare, then see what the connection can handle. Test data goes between your browser and Cloudflare, never through this site.
A result of 250 Mbps down, 20 Mbps up, 14 ms ping, and bufferbloat grade A handles several 4K streams, video calls, and online gaming at once, and downloads a 5 GB movie in under 3 minutes.
Wi-Fi, an older device, a VPN, or other devices downloading at the same time all lower the result. This test also moves one file at a time, so very fast plans can read a little lower than on multi-connection tests. For the closest number to your plan, test on a wired connection with other devices idle.
Under 20 ms of ping is excellent and under 50 ms is good for gaming. Jitter is how much ping wobbles; under 30 ms keeps video calls smooth and under 15 ms is best for games.
Bufferbloat is the extra delay when the line is busy, for example when someone uploads photos during a video call. The test measures ping while idle and while downloading and uploading, and grades the rise from A+ (under 5 ms) to F (400 ms or more). Smart Queue or SQM settings on many routers fix a poor grade.
The test downloads and uploads files directly between your browser and Cloudflare, not this site. Quick uses up to about 135 MB on a very fast line, Full up to about 770 MB, and Data saver under 20 MB. Slower lines use much less because the test stops growing file sizes once a file takes over a second.
No. Results are kept only in this browser's history, and the share link contains only the numbers. Cloudflare sees the test traffic as any website would, and the test does not send results to Cloudflare's results log.
An invisible Cloudflare Turnstile check runs before each test to stop bots from running tests in a loop. Most people never see it. If the check fails, reload the page and try again.
