About this tool

Speed Reading is an RSVP reader: paste a passage and it shows one word at a time at 60 to 800 words per minute, default 300, in steps of 10. The passage stays in the tab.

An RSVP (rapid serial visual presentation) reader: paste or type a passage, set words per minute from 60 to 800 (default 300), and read one word at a time with an optional focal letter highlight.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type text. The reader splits the passage into words. Very large pastes are capped so the tab does not freeze.
  2. Set words per minute. The slider runs from 60 to 800 WPM in steps of 10. The default is 300. The choice is stored in this browser.
  3. Start. Words advance at that rate. An optional pause after commas and sentence endings adds a short delay. An optional focal letter marks one character in the word.

What you can do

  • Words per minute — Adjust 60–800 WPM in steps of 10. Preferences save in this browser.
  • Punctuation pause — Optional extra delay after commas and sentence endings so dense text stays readable.

Default pace

At the default 300 WPM, a 300-word passage takes about one minute before punctuation pauses. At 600 WPM the same passage takes about 30 seconds before those pauses.

Sources

  • This browser — Splitting, timing, and preferences run locally. Nothing is uploaded to Roy's Tools to read the passage.

Limits

  • RSVP reduces eye movement. It does not measure comprehension, and it is not a course.
  • Long words and punctuation can add delay, so the realized pace can be slower than the slider number.
  • Preferences such as words per minute stay in this browser. Clearing site data clears them.

Frequently asked questions

What is RSVP speed reading?

RSVP shows words one at a time at a fixed point so your eyes move less. This tool pastes a passage, splits it into words, and advances at your chosen WPM.

Does my text leave the browser?

No. The passage stays in this tab. Preferences (WPM, font, focal color) are stored locally in your browser.

How fast can I go?

The slider ranges from 60 to 800 words per minute (default 300). Long words and punctuation can add a short extra delay so tokens do not blur together.

Is there a length limit?

Very large pastes are capped so the tab does not freeze. Split long books into chapters if you hit that limit.

Will this teach me to speed-read?

It is a reading aid, not a course. Comprehension varies by person and text. Use a pace you can still understand.
